The Prophet 2

And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship.
And he answered, saying:
Your friends is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thankgiving.
And he is your board and your fire side.
For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay".
And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;
For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but the net cast forth:
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

Fact !

If you leave your rubbish for 2 weeks meat starts growing WORMS and it smells like chemical weapons should smell!

School of Life

Few weeks before I finish my degree. Took me ages to get it. Although it may not be my dream degree, and I'm not going into the details of that, it has been long waited and I'm sure glad that I'm almost there.
It's interesting how a piece of paper can transfer someone from almost nobody to something. That piece of paper is nothing in its self but it implies that a person has had a certain experience in a certain field and this is were its value come from.
What's more interesting is where I believe I gained more knowledge and experience during the last few years. It certainly was not sitting in lecture theaters or digging into book in depressing medical library, but rather in the school of life. The type of people one associates with and the variety of situations one have to deal with. Not having daddy around has had a big role.
I wonder if one can get a piece of paper that says that their qualified in life one day.

THE PROPHET

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, speak to us of children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children
They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
They though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of to-morrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinate, and he bends you with his might that his arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the Archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so he loves also the bow that is stable.

Time

It's interesting how fast time passes by these days ... I was at the Mall today and saw one of these stands to sell next year's Calendars. I stood there for a minute .... not sure what I was think ... all of the sudden I realized how quickly this year went by. It takes a moment like that to appreciate the fact that years are make of days that are made out of seconds that pass by so quickly!.. Wonder how fast next year would pass by.

Jeans Pockets

It's amazing what you could find in the back pockets of your jeans sometimes... in the middle of the day in Ramadan I reach into my back pocket and this is what i find! ... It's a bill for AL-Shahrour one of my favorite restaurants back home. It's got everything I can ever dream of for Fatoor on it ! The only thing that is missing it some Tabooleh which is strange because I always have something green to eat there.

Green Roofs الاسطح الخضراء

This is a beautiful eco-friendly technology. I saw a documentry about it a few years ago when I was back home ... The idea is to have a thin layer for special designed soil and grow plans on it. I like it. It looks good, environmentally friendly, and is a good insulation technique.

Simple Life

As part of observing Ramadan you usually take a late night meal "Suhoor". Mine tonight is pretty simple and delicious. It simply consists of Zayt (Oil in general, Olive Oil with a hint of Balsamic vinegar in my case) ans Za'atar. A simple must-try light meal in the middle east if you ever ended up being there!

Financial crisis

Although I've been blaming myself for most of my financial status that I'm not completely satisfied with due to my high ambitions. Every now and then things just seem to go out of control.
At the beginning of this month was determined to pay off all of my debts by the end of the year. I started running on a really tight budget for my self, cooking most nights and cutting of big time on movies and other sorts of entertainment that I generally enjoy. It all went well initially, until I realized that I have to pay some ridiculous amount of money to get registered with the NZMC before I can start my job next year. Another good payment to sort out my working visa and to top that up my car decided to breakdown over the weekend.
The main difference this time is that I am determined to go through this without picking up my phone and dialing Dad's number asking for help. After all, I'm taking the next step in my life and gonna be earning my own money soon and should learn how to manage my finances. Something that we Saudi's are lacking due to the high level of support we get from our society.
